Over 35 years experience in business/product development, including R&D, customer service, manufacturing, marketing and sales. Experienced in the management of complex hardware and software engineering projects, and the design and development of X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) systems for use in a variety of applications. Also experienced in the design and development of x-ray spectrometers, including applications & modeling software, for electron microscopes (SEM and TEM), and ancillary automation systems. Hands-on implementer of algorithms for X-ray and image analysis, including data acquisition, spectral and image processing, Monte-Carlo modeling and data reduction. Internationally recognized, well-published expert in the field of XRF, specializing in software development. Over 10 years as an industry consultant to many OEM's in the X-ray analysis field.

  • Owner, CrossRoads Scientific, El Granada, CA: develop products & custom x-ray spectrometry software for OEM’s & end users; provide consulting on developing XRF systems, including FP (Fundamental Parameter) and spectrum acquisition and processing software, to leading companies in the x-ray spectroscopy business (1994-present).
  • Vice President and CTO, Metara, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA: responsible for company startup, initial funding, R&D, and technology and market development of products for the microelectronics manufacturing industry (1997-2000).
  • Manager, Instruments & Components, ARACOR, Sunnyvale, CA: responsible for group securing annual R&D funding of $1M, and using that funding for product development of various X-ray spectrometers (XRF/XRD), including several for the microelectronics market (1993-1997).
  • Research Manager, Kevex/Fisons Instruments, Valencia, CA: responsible for developing nextgeneration X-ray spectrometers (1992-3).
  • Software Manager, Kevex Instruments, San Carlos, CA: managed software development of all X-ray products; project management and market development of X-ray spectrometers (1990-2).
  • XRF Product Development Manager, Kevex Instruments, San Carlos, CA: product development of X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) spectrometers (1983-90). Products include the Kevex 770, Omicron and Semicron, which have reached sales of over $100M since their introduction.
  • R&D X-ray Applications Programmer and Scientist, Tracor-Northern (Noran), Madison, WI: developed and tested X-ray fluorescence and e-beam microanalysis software (1982-3).
  • R&D Systems Analyst, Link (Oxford) Analytical, High Wycombe, Bucks., UK: developed control, automation and data processing software for X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and SEM X-ray microanalyzers (1978-82).
